According the Section 3 of the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, there is a process of succession in the event that the President becomes incapacitated. With the President in the hospital and on medications that could potentially impact his ability to govern, there is a process that applies to insure that somebody will always be in control rather than some Al Haag moment when somebody decides that they are in charge and will grab the reins of power.
